Collision at military crossing leaves young motorcyclist seriously injured
NIGEL - An accident at the notorious military crossing outside Dunnottar has left a young man with multiple and critical injuries.
The collision occurred around 07:00 on February 26 and traffic in both directions on the Nigel-Springs Road was brought to a standstill.
According to police spokesperson W/O Tommy Tomlinson from SAPS Dunnottar, the 22 year old was travelling on a motorcycle from the direction of Nigel. He was on his way to work in Springs, when he collided with a vehicle that intersected the crossing in front of him.
The bike crashed into the right front side of the car, causing the young motorcyclist to be flung from his bike. He was found lying on the ground with extensive injuries upon arrival of Nigel Emergency Services. After he was stabilised by emergency workers, he was transported to Pholosong Hospital in Tsakane by ambulance.
The driver of the car sustained injuries to the face and head and was also transported to a nearby hospital.
Ekurhuleni Metro Police regulated traffic and a case of negligent driving will be investigated.
