Motorists urged to stay alert following reports of N3 robberies between Kliplaagte and R23 bridges
Rensburg Forum Management has warned motorists of alleged criminal activity on the N3, where rocks and road spikes are reportedly being used to force vehicles to stop before motorists are robbed at gunpoint.
Motorists travelling along the N3 between Kliplaagte Bridge and R23 Bridge are urged to remain vigilant following reports of criminal activity involving rocks and road spikes allegedly used to force vehicles to stop.
According to information received by Rensburg Forum Management from the SAPS, criminals are reportedly placing rocks and road spikes on the highway to damage vehicles and force motorists to pull over, where they may be robbed at gunpoint.
Motorists are advised to remain alert, avoid stopping in isolated areas and, where possible, continue to a safe, busy location if they suspect their vehicle has been deliberately damaged or that an obstruction is a trap.
They should avoid approaching unknown individuals and contact the police as soon as it is safe to do so.
Rensburg Forum Management has encouraged motorists, commuters and truck drivers who regularly use the route to save emergency contact numbers on their phones before travelling.
The forum-supplied contact numbers include its hotline, 076 052 1300, and the Heidelberg SAPS Community Service Centre at 071 675 7293.
Motorists can also contact the Heidelberg SAPS sector phone on 071 675 7292.
