The accident which claimed the life of Pieter Fourie (a former resident of Heidelberg) occurred around 06:30.

According to EMM Emergency Services spokesperson William Ntladi, Fourie’s bakkie collided with a truck, leaving him critically injured and trapped inside the wreck. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital the following day. Another three people also sustained serious injuries and were transported to Pholosong Hospital. They remain in a stable condition.
