Taxi driver injured after collision with truck on R42
NIGEL - A taxi travelling in the wrong direction on the R42 between The Angelo Mall and Vetsak crossing collided with an oncoming truck, causing the taxi to swerve off land in the gravel on the opposite side of the road.
The accident occurred around 07:30 in peak hour traffic on June 1, but involved no other vehicles. It is not clear why the taxi driver had been driving in the wrong direction.
When emergency service workers from Nigel Fire Brigade arrived on scene, they found the taxi driver trapped behind the steering wheel and had to apply hydraulic equipment (jaws of life) to free him. He sustained moderate to serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
The cause of accident forms part of an investigation by Nigel Metro Police.
