Two seriously injured in accident on Benoni-offramp

A light truck overturned on the Benoni-offramp from the N3 outside Heidelberg at around 09:30 this morning. It took two hours for members of Lesedi Fire and Rescue to free the two occupants with the jaws of life. The truck, carrying packets of chips, were according to Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate from Heidelberg SAPS on its way from Pretoria to Heidelberg when the accident happened.

When the vehicle overturned, the cab fell against the side railing, trapping the driver and passenger inside.

The driver was taken to the Union Hospital by ambulance, but the passenger had more serious injuries and was flown by air ambulance to Alberton.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
