The national prayer day forms part of the October Transport Month Campaign (OTM) and during the event, thousands of members of diverse faiths formed a united front against the incidents of deaths and injuries caused by road accidents on South Africa’s road network.

The Department of Transport in partnership with its entity The Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA), hosted its second national prayer day for road safety of which the public awareness programme is championed by Ms Peters and the deputy Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga, in collaboration with the interfaith movement. The initiative seeks to promote driver road user behavioural change through moral revival and heightened awareness to motorists and road users on road safety.

Groups of interfaith leaders gathered in prayer at an accident hotspot near the police station in Nala Street.

Thousands of members of diverse faiths formed a united front against fatal road accidents and injuries caused by road accidents on South Africa’s road network, when they gathered at the Duduza Resource Centre where minister of Transport Dipuo Peters delivered a prayer for road safety in the country.
