Eskort spoils DJ Run bikers with potjiekos
Bikers with veteran motorcycles as old as 1909 travelled through Heidelberg.
Eskort welcomed participants of the DJ Run motorcycle rally on Saturday with lekker potjiekos for lunch.
There was a festive atmosphere when 12 teams competed for the best potjie and residents came in their flocks to view the 120 classic motorcycles.
The first motorcycle race between Durban and Johannesburg was held in 1913. The initial races were, in fact, raced from Johannesburg to Durban over a three-day period with stop overs in Standerton and Ladysmith. In 1919 the race moved to a two-day event and has remained as such to this day with a stopover in Newcastle. 1922 saw the event change cities and has been ridden from Durban to Johannesburg since.
After their stopover in Heidelberg, the bikers proceeded to Germiston where the rally ended at the Classic Motor Cycle Club.
