One death, four critical injuries on dangerous R42
Is it not time for the road to be improved?
The R42 between Nigel and Heidelberg this week again lived up to its reputation as one of the most dangerous roads in the area after it claimed the life of a worker of Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) while several others sustained serious injuries in two separate accidents.
The first of the two took place on April 20 when a utility van smashed into the back of a truck.
Only one person was injured in the crash.
The road was closed for more than an hour and motorists had to pass the scene on the shoulder of the road. Emergency personnel used the Jaws of Life to remove him from the vehicle.
Then on April 24 an employee of Lesedi was killed when his car overturned during the early morning hours.
It is alleged that the driver,who was declared dead on the scene, was heading back from a party in Alrapark when the accident took place. No other cars were involved.
Two of his passengers were seriously injured and transported to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital (Natalspruit) while the third passenger was taken to Heidelberg Hospital for treatment.
