Save the date: stargazing event at Marievale Bird Sanctuary
Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa’s (WESSA) is hosting its bi-annual stargazing event at the Marievale Bird Sanctuary on April 14.

The event will start at the nature reserve picnic site, from where Stan Madden will lead a guided walk through the wetlands for bird viewing at 16:30. According to Madden, the reserve has many species of birds that only stay there during the summer months, whereafter they migrate to places as far as the Arctic Circle.
After the bird watching expedition (around 18:30) fires will be lit for a braai. It is however, essential to bring your own food and beverages, as well as a camping chair, torch (or lamp), binoculars and warm clothes or blankets for the evening.
Stargazing will commence at 19:00 where Andrew Helston will brief stargazers on what to look out for. Under Andrew’s guide, everybody will be allowed an opportunity to look at night skies through the lens of a large telescope.
