Guinness World Records has granted them permission to execute a second attempt to build the canned food pyramid, which will take place on October 13 during the Lesedi Community Services MTB Challenge for Hope cycle challenge at Lezar Opstal.

8500 cans of food still needed

Plans to break the Guinness World Record for the largest canned food pyramid did not go according to plan for the organisers of this year’s Unity Parade on August 31.

However, they remain undeterred in achieving this goal.

“We could not break the world record during the Unity Parade, as we only managed to collect at total of 22 500 cans,” event organiser Lezanne Scholly said.

Time is running out as they only have until October 5 to collect around 8500 cans of food. Part of the record conditions is that all tins must be the same size and shape.

“We therefore ask for donations of the round type of cans that weigh around 400g each (i.e maize or peas). Cash donations are also welcome, so that we can buy the cans ourselves. Remember, each and every tin goes back into the community,” Lezanne said.
