Learners give top performances to celebrate Madiba’s legacy

Grade R learners from various schools in the Sedibeng district celebrated the centenary of Nelson Mandela with dances and performances at a Life Skills celebration.

The Grade R Life Skills celebration, presented by the Gauteng Provincial Department of Education on September 19. Hosted at Heidelberg Public School to celebrate Madiba’s legacy.

Every school performed a short play or dance to celebrate the centenary of Nelson Mandela. Sonti Phala (Department of Education, Deputy Chief of Education Specialist) judged the performances according to their confidence, interaction and creativity. This event provided an opportunity for the Grade R learners to boost their confidence through drama and to socialise with learners from other schools.

A dozen or so schools from the Sedibeng district participated in this event. Laer Volkskool, Laerskool AG Visser, Boneha Primary School, Shalimar Ridge Primary School, Tshepo Themba Day Care Centre and Heidelberg Public School are some of the schools that participated.

Shalimar Ridge Primary School received a gold certificate for their dance about conserving water.

Chanelle Maseko, Ziyanda Tshabalala, Nompilo Dladla, Nhlanhla Nhlanganiso and Atlehang Mokoena from Shalimar Ridge Primary School received a gold certificate during the Life Skills celebration held at Heidelberg Public School.

 

Shalimar Ridge Primary School performed a dance about water conservation for which they received a gold certificate.
