Disabled Jordan sings to inspire
Local disabled musician Jordan Pretorius is an inspiring artist whose only wish is to touch people’s hearts with his voice.

Pretorius was born with the generic disorder Osteogenesis Imperfecta. The condition, also known as brittle bone disease, is a genetic disorder characterised by bones that break easily and he therefore attended a school for disabled children in Westcliff for the most part of his life.
“As you can imagine, sports or any physical activities could never be an option for me so at the age of eight, I started playing my sister’s acoustic guitar. Soon enough, my mom bought me my own guitar and I just continued playing and singing until one day I found myself on stage – performing at the coveted SA’s Got Talent competition,” he said.
More recently (in 2017) he was also a contestant in the Idols SA competition, but was eventually eliminated at an advanced stage.
His life however, spiraled out of control after the loss of both his parents and he told HERAUT that life turned into hardship, as he was forced to live off the streets in order to survive. As with any other challenge he had faced before, he turned the tables on himself and sought a positive outcome, which once again turned out to be musical performance.
Pretorius says that when he looks at himself, he does not see a disability, but only a less capable musician who wants to inspire people through his music.

Although he is wheelchair bound, Pretorius drives himself to every show and said he never backs down from a challenge. He prefers acoustic music but added that he performs all genres and sometimes writes his own lyrics.
These days, Pretorius makes a living as a musician, but says his ultimate goal is to inspire people. He wants people to see beyond the wheelchair and to look at his life story and say “If Jordan can do it, what can I do? what greatness can I achieve?”
