Beloved Nigel SAPS member dies
Nigel SAPS member Capt Den Sphiwe Silabi died recently following a short illness.
NIGEL – It was with great sadness that members of Nigel SAPS learnt about the death of Capt Den Sphiwe Silabi.
He died on Friday last week after a short illness.
Silabi joined the police service in 1994 and began his career at the Tsakani Police Station, where he mainly worked in crime prevention and as part of the Vispol teams.
In 2010 he survived multiple shootings that left him in a coma. The shooting also left his face and body scarred.
He joined Nigel SAPS in 2019, where he was the Vispol commander.
To his coworkers, Silabi will be remembered as a dedicated and loyal member of the service who always interacted well with everybody and had an open-door policy.
He is survived by his wife, three children and an older brother.
“I will always remember him as a humble and kind man,” said his brother, Patrick Silabi.
“He was a good man of few words.”
Nigel SAPS station commander Lt-Col Senzangakhona Mohale expressed his condolences.
“I would like to express my deepest condolences to his family, friends and every member at the station. and to the Nigel community at large as we face the loss of one of our own,” he said.
“I encourage every member to not despair in a tough time like the one we are facing, but let us celebrate his life, his leadership and guidance and the effort he showed during his work. We will miss him.”
Silabi’s funeral will be held on Saturday in Bushbuckridge.
