HEIDELBERG – A 36-year-old man was arrested for assault GBH after stabbing another man (41) in the head on Saturday.
The incident took place at the corner of Eugene Marais and Kort Street at 4.40pm.
It is reported the victim was sitting in front of a shop when the perpetrator started fighting with another man.
After the man ran away from his attacker, the perpetrator turned on the victim.
The victim saw the man pick up a broken beer bottle and walk towards him. The victim was then struck over the head with the bottle.
The victim immediately reported the matter to the Heidelberg SAPS, whose quick response led to the attacker’s arrest.
Heidelberg SAPS station commander Col Phiwe Samuel Ndwandwe encouraged members to attend to reports of contact crimes urgently as those responsible are usually still in the vicinity.
The arrested man will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
