Pair caught tapping diesel

Two men were caught and arrested for tapping suspected stolen diesel.

HEIDELBERG – Two men, aged 28 and 34, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen diesel and petrol along First Street in the Spaarwater Plots area on Saturday afternoon.

On Thursday last week, during the multi-disciplinary operation O Kae Molao in Heidelberg, it was found that the plot in First Street was a regularly used spot for the tapping of diesel, petrol and paraffin.

The Sedibeng district commissioner, Maj Gen Zodwa Ettie Molefe, was informed of the activity and immediately tasked the Heidelberg SAPS station commander, Col Phiwe Samuel Ndwandwe, to assemble law-enforcement agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly to detect who might be involved in these unlawful activities.

Fidelity Guard Security, the Crime Intelligence Unit, Organised Crime Unit, Heidelberg Crime Prevention Unit, Spaarwater Plots Sector Crime Forum as well as trusted individuals were tasked to assist in these investigations.

On Saturday afternoon, a truck was seen arriving at the plot and back-up was immediately summoned by the Heidelberg SAPS.

The truck driver tried to flee the scene but was cornered by Fidelity Guard Security.

Upon their arrival, members of Heidelberg SAPS arrested two men. The plot was full of containers filled with petrol, diesel and paraffin.

The arrested men will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
