Mayor of LLM embarks on service delivery roadshow

Mluleki Nkosi was appointed as executive mayor of Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) on March 19.

Nkosi advised that since his appointment, he has been engaging with the heads of departments at the municipality to identify key areas to focus on.

Infrastructure and service delivery was identified as priority issues and with this in mind, Nkosi and members of his mayoral committee embarked on a service delivery roadshow on April 8.

The mayoral committee started at the pothole-riddled taxi rank at Shalimar Ridge.

“Potholes are crippling our town. Besides the rainfall, the potholes are also due to a lack of maintenance,” Nkosi said.

One of the potholes at Shalimar Ridge Taxi Rank that will, according to Mluleki Nkosi, be repaired soon.

Lesedi is fraught with dangerous potholes and motorists have to take decisive action when driving. Nkosi is confident that all potholes will be fixed.

“We appreciate the community’s efforts in patching up some potholes and we look forward to working with them. Together we can make a big change,” Nkosi said and also added that LLM has skilled employees for infrastructure maintenance.

“We must ensure to utilise them fully during a workday. Overtime is purely for emergencies.”

Nkosi added that he will personally monitor the progress as he is committed to demonstrating his dedication towards service delivery especially during his first 100 days in office.

Dressed in protective clothing and gloves, Nkosi took matters into his own hands when he took a pick and started preparing a pothole area at the taxi rank for patching.

From Shalimar Ridge, the committee left for the Ratanda dumping site.

“The dumping site is in the face of the township and poses a serious health hazard,” Nkosi said, who also mentioned that alternative options for dumping sites will be investigated and identified.

Another ‘burning’ issue that was identified as a priority is the nonworking streetlights. Nkosi again emphasised that LLM has the skills and ability to fix the streetlights but that there is a lack of commitment from staff who, according to Nkosi, arrive late and leave early.

He further emphasised that he will personally monitor their performance.

The party also visited the LLM stores to do an inventory of what is immediately available to be used for infrastructure maintenance.

The mayoral committee advised that the service delivery roadshow will continue every Thursday whereby the mayor will be on the ground with his blue overall making sure that service delivery is attended to.
