Get to know our people: Annemare Jansen van Vuuren

Annemarie Jansen van Vuuren is the mall manager at Heidelberg Mall. She grew up in the Evander and Secunda area and moved to Heidelberg in October when she was appointed as manager.

Annemarie has two adult sons and enjoys her new surroundings. She told Heraut how much she loves the history and heritage of Heidelberg.

What is your background and how did you get to Heidelberg?

I have over 14 years of operations experience in retail. I joined Capital Land in 2012 as centre manager of Highland Mews in Witbank. In 2014, I took over the management of a portfolio of five shopping centres located in Mpumalanga and in 2020 I moved to Heidelberg and took on the management of Heidelberg Mall. Before my appointment at Capital Land, I was a co-owner and manager of 11 franchise outlets in Gauteng.

Describe a typical day at the office. What does your job entail?

I am responsible for the oversight of all operational aspects of Heidelberg Mall, including the management of service providers and adherence to protocol, liaison with the head office about tenants, tenant installations and administration, leasing and marketing support.

What do you like most about your job?

I love retail and working with people.

Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

I enjoy arts and crafts, trail walking and the outdoors.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

Every person’s greatest emotional need is to be appreciated.

What would you like to accomplish this year?

To connect with residents of Heidelberg and the surrounding communities.

What are your goals for the mall?

I have big plans for Heidelberg Mall, which include new exciting shops and restaurants, marketing campaigns and events for all ages.

If you had the power to solve only one problem in the world, what would it be and why?

Pay it forward – goodwill, kindness, respect and love.

Who or what inspires you?

Enthusiasm and a good attitude. You can’t teach someone to have a good attitude, but if someone has a good attitude, you can teach them anything.

What do you feel you have bragging rights to?

I have raised two wonderful sons who love and respect other people.

What is your favourite thing about Heidelberg?

I love the warmth and friendliness of the people who live here.
