Harvest Outreach Centre hosts life skills session in Vischkuil

The centre was established in 2002. It has conceptualised its programmes to contribute towards addressing the challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment. It is a strong community advocate for the development of previously disadvantaged individuals in various aspects, predominantly the youth, women and children.

“Our life skills programme is all about teaching people life skills in general and helping them make sound decisions for their lives,” said Sipho Fokazi, sustainable livelihood manager.

Residents came in numbers and were keen to learn valued life skills facilitated by Fokazi.

“We were overwhelmed with the attendance, which showed that our services were needed. Attendees had many questions for which they needed solutions,” Fokazi said.

Participation was encouraged and attendees took part in sharing their stories. Sipho touched on the topic of transformation and said transformation starts within oneself.

One of the guests was happy to share her story about being a heavy drinker and chain smoker until she realised she was wasting a lot of money and putting her life in danger and decided to change.

“The community of Vischkuil was happy to have the presence of Harvest Outreach Centre Services. We are indeed transforming, one neighbour at a time,” Fokazi added.

Harvest Outreach does not only focus on life skills, but also helps people who are involved in substance abuse, teaches parents how to accept their children after they retirn from a rehabilitation centre and offers support groups.

They also assist jobseekers by registering them on their database.
