Youth Day fun run

Youth Day was celebrated in Alra Park on June 16 with a fun run marathon.

The Siyonqoba Simunye Foundation hosted a fun run marathon on Youth Day in Alra Park.

The marathon would have started at 06:00 but was delayed due to safety reasons.

The organisers were able to ensure the safety of the participants by time the race started at 08:00. With a distance of 7km through the neighbourhood, participants were eager to get going.

Ninety people participated in the fun run.

“The fun run was the first of it’s kind that was hosted in Alra Park,” said Ernest Sibeko of the foundation.

“It wasn’t just good exposure for our foundation but it brought a community together.

“Safety was our main concern and all necessary Covid-19 regulations were in place for the race. “People are already asking about the next event.”

Faith Miya was the ladies champion of the day.

Funds raised from the event will go back to the community.

“We want to help the less fortunate families in our community,” explained Sibeko.

“Things like food parcels, school shoes and sanitary products are all part of the things we would like to give back to the community.”

Jabulani Mahlangu won the first place prize for the men, while Faith Miya won first place for the ladies.

“We would like to thank all of our sponsors for the day, as well as Brian our photographer,” concluded Sibeko.

“And a special thank you to everyone who came to participate in the marathon. Without you the day couldn’t have been a success.”
