Every day should be Women’s Day

Celebrating the women in my life.

In August we celebrate Women’s Day on August 9, but for many of us, the whole of August is Women’s Month.

I shared my Women’s Day with my loved ones at home. And while I sat outside with our friends who were braaiing with us, I looked at each one of my friends.

I looked at them and saw how amazing they really are. Each one of them is special to me in a unique way, each one of them has their own talents, their own way of running their households and also their own way of fighting battles.

This is when I realised that a world without women would not be the same.

Yet on a daily basis, I still read articles and posts on social media about gender-based violence (GBV). Now, in my mind I am thinking in August we celebrate women, but how can we celebrate if the numbers of GBV increase on a daily basis.

It is very sad to think how these cruel things happen to women.

As the day with my friends progressed, I experienced a feeling of gratitude. I am so proud to be a woman and so blessed with all the women in my life. Each of them plays a different role in my life and this year I want to celebrate them.

Thank you for being in my life and thank you for helping me see the good in life.

Bless you for being extraordinary and filling not only my life but also your family’s life with colour.

Thank you for answering my calls and listening to what I have to say even when it sometimes means I will just phone to complain.

Thank you to the women in my life for being role models. You all are queens and you are worthy.

Women’s Day should be every day.
