Heidelberg Hospital leads infection prevention awareness campaign at Sithokomele Primary School
Learners at Sithokomele Primary School in Ratanda recently took part in an integrated health awareness campaign focusing on hand hygiene, infection prevention, TB, HIV and AIDS, and reporting gender-based violence.
Heidelberg Hospital, in partnership with Sedibeng District Health Services (Lesedi Sub-District), Lesedi Local Municipality’s HIV and AIDS Programme and Ratanda SAPS, recently held an integrated handwashing and health awareness campaign at Sithokomele Primary School in Ratanda.
Held on October 21, the campaign formed part of International Infection Prevention Week, observed from October 19 to 25, and aimed to educate learners on the importance of good hygiene and preventing the spread of infections.
During the awareness programme, learners demonstrated a good understanding of hand hygiene, cough etiquette and how germs spread through contaminated hands.
They also shared their knowledge of tuberculosis, HIV and AIDS, as well as measures to reduce the transmission of infections.
The programme further addressed gender-based violence, with learners receiving guidance on reporting abuse to the South African Police Service.
