Hanyani wellness program comes to Ratanda
The programme's aim is to promote the physical wellbeing of the people of Gauteng.
The Hanyani Wellness and fitness programme continued at the multi-purpose centre in Ratanda on October 12.
Mbali Hlophe, the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR) in Gauteng, with other local personalities, including sports fans and health enthusiasts, led and took part in the activities of the day.
The day’s activities began with a 5km to 10km walk that was followed immediately by aerobics, kickboxing and yoga.
Covid-19 regulations and restrictions were adhered to by the community and the department.
The Hanyani programme was launched in 2020 and aims to initiate and inculcate the culture of a healthy physical lifestyle among the people of Gauteng.
The programme also infuses different elements of physical exercise, that includes yoga, aerobics, walking and jogging.
The Gauteng Department of SACR aims to build the Hanyani Health and Wellness Programme into a movement that will turn Gauteng into a space whose people are passionate about physical health and well-being.
“We wish to get everyone in Gauteng making time with their families and friends to use every available space and field at home and elsewhere to choose to be active,” said Hlophe, speaking on the importance of such a programme.

“It is important for our workforce, the youth, elderly and everyone to be ready and healthy in meeting the demands of growing a prosperous Gauteng.”
Since its inception, the programme has proved to be popular among individuals, families and health clubs.
Plans are already underway to increase and expand the roadshows into all communities of Gauteng in informal settlements, townships and suburbs.
The day was described as a success by Hlophe, who not only referred to the people who showed up to join in the activities, but also noted the happiness and excitement of the crowd.
