JJ Masipa learners honoured at ceremony
JJ Masipa Technical Occupational School recently held its award ceremony.
JJ Masipa Technical Occupational School recently held an award ceremony to honour the progress of its learners, as well as to thank key stakeholders of the school.
During the ceremony, Olivia Raphael, chief education specialist for inclusion and special schools, awarded five district director medals on behalf of district director Pheello Metsing.
Raphael confirmed the school, previously named Qhaqholla Primary School, changed to a technical occupational school in 2018.
The learners demonstrated great potential when five medals were awarded to the top achievers in practical subjects:
• Agricultural studies: Lehlonolo Mofokeng (81%) and Reatligile Masekela (83%)
• Consumer studies, sewing: Palesa Princess Mphuti (73%)
• Hospitality studies: Radebe Sibusiso Sam (90%) and Velaphi Samekele (89%)
School staff, the school’s governing body chairperson, Sindaphi Mgcina, and the Sedibeng East District office thanked the various stakeholders and sponsors for great teamwork and continuous support.
Pick n Pay, Quality Meats and Eskort were thanked for the various donations made to the school and for the help they provide.
The school’s curriculum manager, Tsholofela Nyawane, honoured the businesses with framed certificates for their support in investing in the learners to develop skills that are needed in the job market.
Jackie de Souza, chief education specialist for curriculum, congratulated the year four learners with their achievements in job shadowing awarded to them by the businesses. The SETA certificates were also awarded by the Cre8tion Projects during the award ceremony.
The school was also congratulated by Theuns Botha, institutional development and support official of the school, for the great progress that was made with the learners and the work done by their educators.
Rhilinde van der Walt, the director and assessor of Cre8tioin projects, working with the FP&M SETA, awarded seven accredited skills-development certificates obtained through the SETA to the following learners:
• Moshana Matseleng
• Mbulelo Mgcina
• Sebiloane Mampho
• Motaung Mantoa Maria
• Mphuti Palesa Princess
• Khatledi Tumelo
• Nhlapo Nathaniel Sanele
• Palesa Princess Mphuti, who is the top performer, obtaining a SETA sewing certificate.
Mickey Mokonane thanked the businesses for their continuous support. He also expressed his appreciation to Louis le Grange, mentor and subject advisor for life orientation, for supporting the school for the past year and for the difference he has made at the school.
