Municipal election winners declared

The results of the municipal elections were confirmed by the IEC.

Hundreds of registered voters made their mark for the municipal elections on November 1.

For our local communities, these elections were considered a chance to make a difference and not just to make a mark.

In Heidelberg and the rest of the Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) the ANC kept control of the municipality by accounting for the majority of the results, with 24 315 votes and 50.43% support from the community. The party holds 13 seats, whereas they held 16 seats previously.

The DA came in second with 9 798 votes and 20.32% support. The party now holds five seats.

The EFF received 6 524 votes with 13.53% support in the municipality and has four seats.

The FF+ received 4 356 votes, which accounts for 9.04% support and a resultant three seats.

A new party, Socialist Economic Freedom Movement, joined the table by winning a single seat with 1 084 votes.

In Nigel (Ekurhuleni Ward 88), the DA came out victorious with 6 263 votes and a resultant 42.23% support that also gave the party one seat.

The municipal elections took place on November 1.

The ANC took second place with 3 899 votes within the ward and 26.29% support.

The Patriotic Alliance (PA) received 1 702 votes from the community with a resultant 11.48% support.

The FF+ received 1 150 votes with 7.75% support, while the Independent Ratepayers Association of South Africa received 665 votes and a resultant 4.48% support.

The EFF received 449 votes and a resultant 3.03% support in the ward.

For Balfour and Greylingstad residents (Dipaleseng Ward Three), the winning party was the ANC with 1 082 votes and a resultant 39.92% support in the ward. The party also has one seat.

The FF+ was short on their heels with 817 votes and a resultant 30.15% support.

The DA received 557 votes with 20.55% support, while the EFF received 174 votes that resulting in 6.42% support.

Residents hope the winning parties and their councillors will commit themselves to their wards and live by their promises.
