Heidelberg Mall patrons enjoy coffee with cops

The mood, in general, was joyful and everyone who attended enjoyed the day.

Heidelberg SAPS recently held an event where residents could voice their concerns in a free and peaceful manner by having a cup of coffee with police members and sharing their views on how to improve services in the community.

The event was hosted at the Heidelberg Mall, with the help of the mall manager and her dedicated team.

There were also representatives from the Heidelberg and District Taxi Association.

Other stakeholders involved included LCS Group, Heidelberg and District Taxi Association, Sanca, Wimpy, Nando’s DPF, Lesedi Local Municipality, CPF, Crimestop, ADT Security, Adams and Adams, Woodrock, Netcare 911, Tracker, Lesedi Traffic Department, Chaplain Emergency Services, Alpha Community Trauma Centre, Consumer Goods Council of South Africa, Intellidrive, as well as the local media.

Mall patrons enjoyed coffee with law enforcers.

Strict Covid-19 protocols were in place.

The initiative aimed to get the community involved to curb and hopefully stop crime in its tracks by working hand in hand with the local SAPS and other law-enforcement departments.

The mood, in general, was joyful.

The day had a real good turnout, with the community at large visiting different exhibitions and speaking to the specialists in their own area and getting first-hand information as to what obstacles each department needs to overcome to be successful in its field.

Musical entertainment was provided by the Jeppestown SAPS Band. It ensured there was dancing by the community throughout the mall.

Also at the event was the SAPS Equestrian Unit.

The SAPS aims to enhance a better relationship with the community and believes in the saying, ‘Together we stand, divided we fall’.
