Kick substance abuse to the curb

The programme was held to educate ex-substance abusers about the services offered by the outreach centre.

On December 3, the SAPS and Harvest Outreach Centre visited Sicelo in Ratanda.

The programme was initiated by an ex-substance abuser and Harvest Outreach Centre.

Former addict Tebogo encouraged others who are also in the habit of abusing substances to join the programme, get socialised and be an asset to society.

When he entered the rehabilitation facility to get back to normality within society, 10 other substance users entered as well.

The centre joined forces with other role players to create the outreach programme.

The aim was to educate and encourage ex-substance abusers in the community on the dangers and pitfalls of substance abuse and reintegration into society.

The difficult part is to stay clean after kicking the habit. Part of the problem is bad company and gang-related activities.

Harvest Outreach Centre wants to assist other users and substance abusers with aftercare and reintegration into society by preparing them for the outside world.

Part of their service and assistance is helping with job training, finding employment and social stability and psychological assistance.
