Nigel SAPS is investigating a case of murder after a man died in Pholosong Hospital on January 29.
This was after the man was reportedly assaulted by the community of Jameson Park.
The man was originally found inside the home of a Jameson Park resident, who had not been home.
The owner of the house entered the home that was broken into and ransacked, presumably by the deceased.
Upon finding the man there, the deceased then tried to stab the owner with a broken beer bottle.
The owner overpowered him while his wife called neighbours for assistance.
Upon further investigation, the owner found that valuable property was missing.
The owner and neighbours took it upon themselves to question the now deceased male and took him to Nigel Diary Hostel, where they found the stolen property in an open veld.
Community members who accompanied the homeowner then assaulted the man, severely injuring him.
The man was then taken to the hospital for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
The police strongly condemn the action taken by community members and issued a stern warning to people who try to take the law into their own hands.
