Lesedi Local Municipality invites public participation

Community raise concerns at city hall.

Lesedi Local Municiplity held its IDP meeting in the city hall on February 17.

The public was invited to join and to raise any issues or concerns they have in their community and Heidelberg at large.

Lesedi executive mayor Mluleki Nkosi chaired the meeting.

IDP coordinator Andrew Machitje gave a quick overview of what is happening in Heidelberg from the local municipality perspective.

All questions were deferred until the presentation was completed.

Machitje said, “The vision of LLM is that by 2030 it will be a smart, innovative efficient people-centred and performance-driven municipality, providing a safe and healthy living environment and quality services for its community.

“The mission of LLC is to improve the quality of life of its people by providing sustainable high-quality service delivery mandates through innovation, good governance continuous capacity building, integrated planning and applying Batho Pele principles.”

IDP co-ordinator Andrew Machitje addressed the community.

There will be five national key performance areas that LLC will look at:

• Municipal transformation and organisational development

• Basic service delivery

• Local economic development

• Financial management and viability, and;

• Good governance and public participation.

The floor was open for the community to raise concerns. The concerns were tabled for Jameson Park, Shalimar Ridge, Kaydale, Bergsig, Jordaan Park, Ratanda, Overkruin, and Rensburg.

The public was invited to join and raise concerns at the meeting.

The concerns and issues include:

• Roads and electricity upgrades.

• Electricity outages and open power points and cables.

• Cutting of grass at entrances a the Shalimar Ridge Library

• Cherry pickers needed for repairing street lights and ensuring the streetlights work.

• Low water bridges where children have to cross to go to school, pothole repairs.

• Community members using narcotics, parks for the children to play in that are safe.

• Basic service delivery, employment of locals being ignored.

• Promoting sport at schools in the Ratanda area and sports stadium maintenance.

• Places allocated and accessible in the area where rubble can be taken to and skips supplied.

• New developments coming up – need to know if electricity demand can be met and not affect current residents.

• Laying of new water pipes in the area.

• Municipal by-laws need to be implemented.

• Traffic department officials need to look at the duties and responsibilities of their officials and to ensure the duties are carried out.

• Youth development and illegal buildings that are popping up.

No resolutions were discussed and will be brought up at the next council meeting.
