School safety campaign

Learners educated on safety in schools by local SAPS members.

On February 21, Col Phiwe Ndwandwe, with Heidelberg crime prevention units with its various stakeholders – Community Police Forum, Youth Desk, Victim Friendly Facility, Lesedi Awareness Outreach and Social Crime Prevention teams, visited four schools in the Heidelberg district to educate the learners on the different roles law enforcement plays within the community.

The schools that were visited were Laer Volkskool, Sedaven Primary School, Pinkie Ponkie Pre-Primary School and Excelleer Pre-Primary School.

The outreach programme aims to build and enhance a good relationship between the various government agencies and the learners.

The learners were educated on the different roles that law enforcement plays within the community and the opportunities available to them when thinking about their future and choosing careers.

Crime Prevention visited schools to educate them on safety in the schools.

Most importantly, learners were educated about safety and security in the schools.

Emphasis was placed on the learners, that the greatest difficulty is to establish and understand that difficulties are a great way to identify opportunities and to stand up and take charge.

Learners were further educated about bullying, health, respect, self-esteem and self-confidence.

The various stakeholders will continue to visit schools in the community to share information and guide them.

Any school or community interested in a visit from Heidelberg SAPS and their stakeholders may contact Const Doris Nkosi (corporate communications) on 072 887 0167.
