The body of a man was found inside a truck on March 23 by patrolling SAPS members.
At 03:00 during patrols along the Kliplaagte R103 Road, officers noticed a stationary truck on the side of the road and decided to investigate.
They found the body of a man inside the truck with his hands and feet tied.
The owner of the truck was contacted.
According to the owner, the truck was en route from Durban to Germiston.
The owner explained the truck was supposed to have a fully loaded trailer. The trailer was not found.
Upon further investigations, it was established the truck was possibly hijacked in the Vaal Marina area and driven to Jameson Park, where it is suspected the trailer was hitched to another truck.
The truck was then driven to Kliplaagte Road, where it was abandoned.
The cause of death and the possible hijacking is being investigated.
With truck hijackings on the increase, Heidelberg SAPS station commander Col Phiwe Ndwandwe urged all drivers to be alert and not to pick up strangers.
“Various hijacking syndicates are working in the area and are using males and females in their hijacking operations,” he said.
“Be aware that the people are armed and dangerous.”
Anyone with information is requested to contact their nearest SAPS.
