With school holidays looming and the high number of ongoing power outages occurring, the EMPD has provided top safety tips to keep locals safe.
According to Ignatius Maphike of EMPD, road users must be extra vigilant of pedestrians as most children will be filling up the streets to play during these holidays.
Safety tips
• Parents or adults should encourage their children to play inside the yard or in designated playing parks.
• Children are to always walk in groups on the sidewalk and not in the roadway.
• Children should hold hands with older children when crossing the roadway.
• Children are not to get into strangers’ vehicles.
• Guardians are to encourage their children not to come home after 17:00.
• Motorists are to adhere to speed limits in buildup areas 30km.
• Motorists are to keep headlights on after sunset.
• Motorists are to use traffic signals as a stop sign during power outages.
