Heidelberg to unite against fires
Land owners called to partner with Heidelberg's Working on Fire's this winter season.
Working on Fire regional manager Sipho Dhladhla strengthened ties by holding a series of engagements with land owners to partner with the Working on Fire programme’s Heidelberg team ahead of the winter fire season.
Dhladhla said there is a huge need to forge strong partnerships with the landowners.
He said WOF is going to help landowners with burning the fire breaks, fire suppressions and fire awareness workshops with farm workers.
This, he said, will yield positive results when it comes to fire control and management in the area.
‘‘The Heidelberg Fire Protection Association is also encouraging the land owners to make use of the Working on Fire programme’s team. The burning of the fire breaks will start this month,’’ explained the regional manager.
Dhladhla said the landowners know that they need to obtain burning permits from the local authorities.
The partnership, he said, will ensure the team works effectively for the greater good of the communities around Heidelberg.
‘‘Our crew leaders are part of these engagements to understand the needs of the landowners. This eradicates any form of red tape between us and land owners,’’ he said.
Martie Van Eck, a secretary for the Fire Protection Association, urged farmers to ensure farms are safe from fire dangers. This, she said, can be done through working with the municipality’s public safety department.
