Heidelberg Hospital brings survivors and healthcare professionals together for stroke awareness session
Healthcare professionals, stroke survivors and caregivers gathered at Heidelberg Hospital on November 4 for an educational session highlighting stroke recovery, rehabilitation, prevention and the importance of emotional support.
Heidelberg Hospital marked Stroke Awareness Month with an educational session on November 4, bringing together healthcare professionals, stroke survivors and caregivers to highlight the importance of stroke awareness, rehabilitation and ongoing support.
The hospital’s internal Clinical Support and Therapeutic Services organised the session, which focused on educating attendees about stroke recovery and the different forms of support available to those affected by the condition.
A multidisciplinary team comprising physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, a pharmacist, a psychologist and a dietitian shared information on rehabilitation, medication management, healthy eating and blood pressure control.
The healthcare professionals highlighted the importance of a comprehensive approach to stroke recovery, explaining how different healthcare disciplines contribute to improving patients’ health, mobility and overall quality of life.
Dr Roger Mutombo addressed the emotional, psychological and social challenges experienced by stroke survivors. He emphasised the importance of emotional support, accessible environments and creating opportunities for survivors to regain their independence.
The session also offered stroke survivors and caregivers an opportunity to engage with healthcare professionals, ask questions and gain practical knowledge about managing life after a stroke.
