New arts initiative launched in Heidelberg
Organisers are planning to present the “Art in the Park” procject every first Saturday of the month.
HEIDELBERG – On January 4, Heidelberg Hope, the Heidelberg Heritage Museum, and Melinda van der Merwe teamed up to launch an exciting new project.
“Arts in the Park” kicked off at the Heidelberg Heritage Museum, marking the start of a creative year.
Being the first edition of the initiative and new in the area only a few artists joined, but the initiative is set to grow in the months to come, creating a space for local artists to showcase their various forms of artwork to the public, all in one place.
Artists can showcase their skills and create their artwork while the public watches, offering visitors the chance to explore various forms of art and even purchase a piece if something catches their eye.
Two of the artists who were present during the launch of the new project were Ewald Calitz and Tele Dlamini. Calitz has been practising oil painting for the past six months, after previously experimenting with watercolours.

Dlamini is a local Heidelberg resident hailing from Bergsig and has been painting since 2020. She began painting during the Covid-19 pandemic when she bought two canvases at a local store.
Since then, she has grown into an abstract artist.
Organisers are planning to present the “Art in the Park” project every first Saturday of the month at the Heidelberg Heritage Museum, situated on the corner of Peperboom and Voortrekker Street, Heidelberg.
It’s not just for painters but also for artists working in drawing, photography and any other art forms created from various subjects and mediums.
