HEIDELBERG – Jaén-Lee Pyne, the accused of the murder of Etienne du Preez and the attempted murder of Flip Minnaar, appeared in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court on January 20.
This court appearance was in connection with a case of assault GBH and malicious damage to property from early 2023.
Pyne appealed following the decision by Legal Aid SA to deny his application for representation.
Initially, he presented the appeal to the SA Legal Aid satellite office. It was transferred to the local office and is currently at the national office.
The appeal outcome will be made available on February 7.
On the same day, Pyne will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court for a decision about where and when the murder and attempted murder trial will commence.
It could either be transferred to the regional or high court of South Africa.
The third case involving Pyne is also for murder after a man’s body was discovered in the front yard of the premises he occupied in 2024.
Pyne’s bail of R500 for the assault and malicious damage case was extended, but he remains in custody for the other pending cases.
