Soldiers Wrestling up for new challenges in 2026

The impressive turnout highlighted the club’s growing popularity and the community’s support.

HEIDELBERG – The Soldiers Wrestling Club in Heidelberg launched its 2026 season when nearly 50 wrestlers packed the training mat for the first practice on January 21.

The strong turnout reflects the club’s growing popularity and the dedication of its athletes, coaches and supportive parents.

From experienced competitors to new faces, the energy in the hall was electric. The focus for the season ahead is on skill development, discipline, fitness and building character; values wrestling teaches on and off the mat.

Soldiers’ coach Dewald de Wet said, “We are ready for new challenges and what the year will bring. We are already working hard to have a successful year,” said De Wet.

“It does not matter at what level you are; we welcome anyone to join. Together, we are building something special, one practice, one match, and one athlete at a time.

“As a community-driven club, we invite potential sponsors wishing to support youth development, sports and positive role models to get in touch.

“Any support helps us grow the club, improve training conditions and create opportunities for our wrestlers to compete and succeed,” concluded De Wet.

Training is at Laerskool AG Visser every Tuesday and Thursday at 17:00. To join, call De Wet on 071 466 3397.
