SAPS officer among trio arrested in hijacked car case on N3 near Heidelberg
Three arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle.
Swift response and interaction between Heidelberg SAPS and EMPD led to the recovery of a hijacked car and the arrest of three men on Tuesday morning.
EMPD officers were conducting patrols on the N3 towards Heidelberg when they stopped a light blue Toyota Corolla with three occupants.
They searched the vehicle and initially found nothing out of the ordinary.
However, suspicion arose when the vehicle’s registration did not match the licence disc, and the driver could not provide a satisfactory answer.
The officers circulated the VIN and registration numbers, and it came to light that the vehicle was part of an open Zonkizizwe SAPS case.

The car was hijacked recently in Zonkizizwe, and its occupants were kidnapped. A blue light gang allegedly committed the crime.
Heidelberg SAPS assisted with the arrest.
One of the arrested suspects is a SAPS constable at Zonkizizwe Police Station.
According to reports, the said officer was apparently on his way to the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court to attend a blue light case.
The suspects were detained at Heidelberg SAPS. Investigations are underway, and the three will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
They face charges of having a hijacked motor vehicle in their possession.
