Heidelberg SAPS urges awareness with latest crime figures

Police can only respond to criminal activities if they are reported.

Local SAPS released the following statistics on crimes reported in Heidelberg between August 18 to 24.

The stats have been shared to create awareness in the community about current crime trends in the area.

Sector 1:

(Bergsig, Blinkpoort, Eendracht, Groenfontein, Heidelberg Army Gymnasium, Heidelberg Kloof, Klippoortjie, Koppieskraal, Overkruin, Poortjie, Rooikraal, and rural areas – Spaarwater and Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve)

• National Road 1: Carjacking and kidnapping, N3 North freeway, August 22 at 19:30.

• Blinkpoort: Stock theft, Blinkpoort, August 22 at 16:00.

• National Road 1: Possession of presumed stole property, N3 North freeway, August 21 at 21:00.

• Bergsig: Housebreaking with intention unknown to the state prosecutor, Lelie Street, August 20 at 03:50.

• Bergsig: Residential burglary, Protea Avenue, August 19 at 10:00.

Property involved: Suzuki Etico, cellphone, brick force, TV.

Sector 2:

(Boschfontein, Heidelberg CBD, Heidelberg Central, Jordaan Park, Klipstapel, Mount Arabel, Shalimar Ridge and Schickfontein)

• Heidelberg Ext 6: Business burglary, Albert Street, August 18 at 03:30.

Property involved: Copper cable.

Sector 3:

(Bothaskraal, De Hoek, Houtpoort, Rensburg, Lagerspoort, Modderfontein and Steynskraal)

• Rensburg: Malicious injury to property, Eugene Marais Street, August 21 at 18:00.

• Rensburg: Housebreaking with intention unknown to the state prosecutor, R23 Balfour Road, August 21 at 23:00.

• R23 Balfour Road, Possession of presumed stolen property, R23 Balfour Road, August 20 at 19:15.

• National Road 3: Carjacking and kidnapping, N3 South Freeway, August 19 at 19:20.

Property involved: Palisades, seeds, Volkswagen Polo, cellphone, money.

Arrests for the last week:

• Undocumented persons: 28

• Theft (money): 1

• Assault GBH: 1

• Shoplifting: 1

• Possession of drugs: 3

• Possession of stolen property: 10

• Reckless and negligent driving: 1

• Theft: 2

• Drunk driving: 3

• Contravention of protection order: 1

Heidelberg SAPS is urging community members to report all crimes in their areas.

Police can only respond to criminal activities once they are reported, and this also helps them to identify and focus on hotspot areas.
