SAPS urge residents to report all crimes

By reporting incidents, the police can respond more effectively and focus resources on identified hotspots to improve community safety.

The local SAPS released these statistics on crimes reported in Heidelberg between August 25 to 31.

They share these stats to create community awareness about current crime trends in the area.

Sector 1:

(Bergsig, Blinkpoort, Eendracht, Groenfontein, Heidelberg Army Gymnasium, Heidelberg Kloof, Klippoortjie, Koppieskraal, Overkruin, Poortjie, Rooikraal, and rural areas Spaarwater and Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve)

• National Road 1: Robbery with firearm and kidnapping. N3 North. August 26, 19:55.

• Bergsig: General theft. Disa Street. August 30 at 03:30. Property involved: Cellphone, shoes, gate motor.

Sector 2:

(Boschfontein, Heidelberg CBD, Heidelberg Central, Jordaan Park, Klipstapel, Mount Arabel, Shalimar Ridge and Schickfontein)

• Heidelberg Ext 6: Common assault. Schoeman Street. August 31 at 00:18.

• Heidelberg Ext 5: Residential burglary. Van Driel Street. August 30 at 10:00.

• Heidelberg Central: Theft of motor vehicle. Beecham Street. August 28 at 14:15.

• Heidelberg CBD: Theft of motor vehicle. Voortrekker Street. August 28 at 17:55.

• Shalimar Ridge: Business robbery. Kismet Street. August 27 at 12:00.

• Heidelberg Ext 6: Business burglary. Bessemer Street. August 26 at 17:30.

Property involved: TV, microwave, cellphone charger, invertor, Toyota Hilux, Ford Everest, cigarettes, money, memory card.

Sector 3:

(Bothaskraal, De Hoek, Houtpoort, Rensburg, Lagerspoort, Modderfontein and Steynskraal)

• Rensburg: Common robbery. DF Malan Street. August 29 at 16:30.

• National Road 3: Carjacking and kidnapping. N3 South. August 26 at 18:30.

• Rensburg: General theft. Roets Street. August 25 at 22:00.

Property involved: Laptop, Ford Ranger, garden tools.

Arrests for the last week:

Undocumented persons: 24;

Assault GBH: One;

Possession of drugs: Five;

Driving under the influence: 17;

Malicious damage to property: One;

Warrant of arrest: One;

Contravention of a protection order: One;

Common assault (domestic violence): Five;

Possession of unlicensed live ammunition: One;

Illegal immigrants deported: 12.

The Heidelberg SAPS urge community members to report all crimes in their areas because they can only respond when incidents are reported. It also helps them identify and focus on hotspots.
