Heidelberg crime stats reveal multiple infrastructure damage incidents

Multiple cases of critical infrastructure damage were reported in Heidelberg this week.

The local SAPS has released the latest crime statistics for Heidelberg, covering incidents reported between November 3 and 9.

The figures are shared to keep the community informed and aware of current crime trends in the area.

Sector 1:

(Bergsig, Blinkpoort, Eendracht, Groenfontein, Heidelberg Army Gymnasium, Heidelberg Kloof, Klippoortjie, Koppieskraal, Overkruin, Poortjie, Rooikraal, and rural areas – Spaarwater and Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve).

• Poortjie: Damage to essential infrastructure, Poortjie, November 20 at 18:00.

• Bergsig: Theft from motor vehicle, Angelier Street, November 18 at 21:30.

Property involved: Copper cables, wheels.

Sector 2:

(Boschfontein, Heidelberg CBD, Heidelberg Central, Jordaan Park, Klipstapel, Mount Arabel, Shalimar Ridge and Schickfontein).

• Heidelberg Ext 5: Robbery with a weapon other than a firearm, Smit Street, November 23 at 03:45.

• Heidelberg CBD: Business burglary, Ueckermann Street, November 21 at 11:00.

• Heidelberg CBD: Damage to essential infrastructure, Jacobs Street, November 21 at 06:26.

• Heidelberg Ext 6: Damage to essential infrastructure, Bessemer Street, November 23 at 16:00.

• Heidelberg CBD: Damage to essential infrastructure, Jacobs Street, November 21 at 05:30.

• Heidelberg Central: Theft of a motor vehicle, Begeman Street, November 18 at 13:30.

• Heidelberg Central: Theft out of a motor vehicle, Fenter Street, November 18 at 16:00.

• Heidelberg CBD: Possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Voortrekker Street, November 18 at 12:50.

• Heidelberg Central: Common robbery, R23 Benoni Road, November 19 at 07:00.

Property involved: Cellphone, money, laptop, bag, copper cable, Toyota Hilux LDV, tools, fishing equipment, pistol.

Sector 3:

(Bothaskraal, De Hoek, Houtpoort, Rensburg, Lagerspoort, Modderfontein and Steynskraal)

• National Road 3: Carjacking and kidnapping, N3 South Freeway, November 22 at 19:00.

• National Road 3: Carjacking and kidnapping, N3 South Freeway, November 21 at 20:10.

• Rensburg: Attempted theft from motor vehicle, Nel Street, November 21 at 22:00.

• National Road 3: Carjacking and kidnapping, N3 South Freeway, November 19 at 18:00.

• Rensburg: Robbery with a firearm, R23 Balfour Road, November 17 at 14:00.

• Houtpoort: Damage to essential infrastructure, Houtpoort, November 18 at 21:00.

• Lagerspoort: Damage to essential infrastructure, Lagerspoort, November 18 at 22:00.

Property Involved: Hyundai i20, laptop, cellphone, clothing, Suzuki, wheels, Toyota Etios, money, copper cable.

Heidelberg SAPS also released the weekly report of succesful arrests: shoplifting (3), overloading (3), warrant of arrest (1), possession of an unlicensed firearm (1), illegal immigrants (15), theft (3), fraud (1), possession of drugs (2), infrastructure damage (1), reckless and negligent driving (1), drunk driving (6), and 12 illegal immigrants deported back to their country of origin.

The Heidelberg SAPS is urging residents to report all crimes in their areas, noting that they can only respond effectively when incidents are brought to their attention.

Accurate reporting also helps the police to identify crime hotspots and allocate resources where they are needed most.
