The local SAPS have released crime statistics for Heidelberg covering the period from January 5 to 11.

These figures are being shared to raise community awareness about current crime trends in the area.

Sector 1:

(Bergsig, Blinkpoort, Eendracht, Groenfontein, Heidelberg Army Gymnasium, Heidelberg Kloof, Klippoortjie, Koppieskraal, Overkruin, Poortjie, Rooikraal, and rural areas – Spaarwater and Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve).

• Rooikraal: Attempted murder, Old Alberton Road, January 10.

• Bergsig: Assault GBH, Gousblom Street, January 7.

• Bergsig: Residential burglary, Strelizia Street, January 7.

• Bergsig: Common Assault x2 and malicious injury to property, Tulpe Street, January 7.

Property involved: Jewelery, microwave, windows, TV.

Sector 2:

(Boschfontein, Heidelberg CBD, Heidelberg Central, Jordaan Park, Klipstapel, Mount Arabel, Shalimar Ridge and Schickfontein).

• Shalimar Ridge: Business burglary, Shalimar Ridge Primary School, January 11.

• Heidelberg Ext 5: Residential burglary, Graham Street, January 5.

• Heidelberg Ext 6: Fraud, Viljoen Street, January 7

• Heidelberg CBD: Theft from motor vehicle, Vanzua Tech, Ueckermann Street, January 6.

• Heidelberg CBD: Theft general, Victorian Centre, Jordaan Street, January 5.

• Heidelberg CBD: Theft general, Heidelberg SAPS, Voortrekker Street, January 5.

Property involved: Plastic scooters, TV, Computer Xbox, jewellery tablet, money, vehicle bumper, cellphones, clothes.

(Bothaskraal, De Hoek, Houtpoort, Rensburg, Lasgerspoort, Modderfontein and Steynskraal)

• N3 South Freeway: Carjacking and kidnapping, N3 South just before Heidelberg Mall, January 5.

• Rensburg: Residential burglary, Vos Street, January 10.

• Rensburg: Theft from motor vehicle, Vos Street, January 5.

• Rensburg: Theft of motor vehicle, Station Street, January 9.

• Heidelberg Industrial: Theft general, Van der Steen Street, January 11.

• Rensburg: Theft general, Vos Street, January 10.

• Rensburg: Theft general, Nel Street January 10.

Property involved: Toyota Hilux, Renault Kwid, vehicle wheels and rims, gas bottle, tools, motorbikes, cosmetics, spray gun, and cigarette lighters.

The Heidelberg SAPS urges community members to report any crimes in their areas, as police can only respond to incidents that are officially reported. Reporting also helps them identify crime hotspots and focus resources where they are most needed.
