Suspected stolen vehicle recovered in Nigel during coordinated security operation
A coordinated response involving Nigel SAPS, community safety structures, private security and towing services led to the recovery of a vehicle allegedly linked to a motor-vehicle theft investigation. Several items, including signal jammers and false registration plates, were reportedly found inside the vehicle.
A vehicle allegedly linked to a motor-vehicle theft investigation was recovered in Nigel on August 25 following a coordinated response involving community safety structures, private security and the SAPS.
According to AfriForum Heidelberg, the operation was launched after the organisation received information about a vehicle reportedly being sought by the SAPS.
The vehicle was allegedly travelling with false registration plates and was believed to be linked to a motor vehicle theft investigation. AfriForum Heidelberg contacted the Nigel CPF and Nigel SAPS for assistance.
SAPS members monitored the vehicle from a safe distance, while AfriForum Heidelberg members positioned themselves at strategic locations in preparation for a possible interception.
The teams remained on standby while waiting for the occupants to return to the vehicle. However, after some time, there were no further indications that the suspected individuals would return, and it was believed they had left the area.
SAPS subsequently contacted the vehicle’s registered owner, who reportedly confirmed that the vehicle belonged to him.
Nigel SAPS and the Local Crime Reaction Centre then took control of the scene and proceeded with the necessary procedures. Because the vehicle was locked, assistance was requested to gain access.
Safari Towing assisted by gaining entry through one of the vehicle’s windows.
A subsequent search reportedly uncovered several items, including two signal jammers, cash, false registration plates, a tablet, clothing, tools and gloves.
AfriForum Heidelberg reported that SAPS confirmed the vehicle would be booked into SAP 13, after which the relevant SAPS units would continue with the investigation.
Those acknowledged for their involvement include AfriForum Heidelberg, Heidelberg GVE, Delport Sekuritas Control Room, Safari Towing, SAPS LCRC, Nigel SAPS, Nigel SAPS Vispol, Nigel CPF and Angelo Mall management.
