Local businessman shines brightly

Local Insurance giant made his mark.

Wayne Moorcroft from Amicos Klippies Steenkamp Insurance Brokers participated in the last two seasons, seasons 8 and 9, of The Insurance Apprentice.

This reality show is for any under 35 professionals in the insurance business in the country.

To get selected for the show, you apply and then go through elimination rounds before the show starts.

The judges require strict criteria before you get selected for the actual show.

These include general insurance knowledge, technical knowledge, ways to represent yourself, and speaking and thinking on your feet.

After everyone entered the contest, they narrowed it down to 120 applicants. Then it narrows to the top 90 before getting the top 30 and finally the top 10.

The judges were strict, scrutinising each contestant on how they handled the task they received.

Moorcroft entered the competition on two previous occasions where he was not selected.

For season 8 (2022), he was selected for the online version and finished fifth.

The latest season (season 9, 2023), was broadcasted live and had all the contestants under one roof. Moorcroft went one better and finished in the top 4.

“I was excited and nervous at the same time in the final challenge,” Moorcroft said.

“The competition teaches you so much about yourself, and I will hold on to that as long as I can.”

“I was brought up in the industry by the great man and teacher Klippies Steenkamamp, who sadly passed away in 2022.

“Steenkamp taught me to treat everyone fairly, without shortcuts. It does not matter if it is a client or a fellow employee.

“The culture at Amicos is a huge motivator. We ensure everyone works to the same values at Amicos Klippies Steenkamp Insurance Brokers,” concluded Moorcroft.
