Vandalism affects water supply

Heidelberg is in for a dry spell because reservoirs have been shut down.

Heidelberg is again suffering water strain. In recent months, residents have struggled with a constant water supply.

Reservoirs ran dry while Rand Water repaired pipes and did maintenance on various parts of the pipeline.

The latest drawback on the water issue is that Heidelberg is again in the line of fire with water supplied to the Selcourt Reservoir.

The affected areas are Heidelberg, Devon and Vischkuil.

Criminals have stripped parts of the reservoir’s infrastructure, leading to vandalism of its chamber.

Vandalism of the M1 pipeline air valve and 100mm isolation led to the M1 and M8 pipelines’ cross not sealing.

Therefore, Rand Water had to shut down the M8 pipeline that affected Bloemendal and the Selcourt Reservoir.
At present, there is no indication as to when the water supply will return.
