Cambridge drops points after loss

Cambridge FC has a hill to climb in their final league match.

The Cambridge Football Club dropped valuable points against low-placed Kathorus Juventus, losing the game played at the Duduza Stadium 1-2.

Cambridge FC hosted Kathorus Juventus (ninth on the log) in their penultimate match of the league season.
Cambridge needed to come away with a win to secure the second spot in the Hollywood Bets league. The top four teams will be involved in playoff places.

Kathorus Juventus came into the match with a point to prove and were hungrier for the win than Cambridge FC.
Kathorus scored the first goal in the first 10 minutes of the match.

For some reason, Cambridge struggled to find a rhythm and keep ball possession for long periods.

The halftime score read Cambridge zero and Kathorus Juventus one.

Early in the second half, Cambridge found the back of the Kathorus net and scored to equalise.

Kathorus pushed forward because they had nothing to lose and scored a controversial goal from a reportedly offside position. The match officials did not overturn the goal, and Kathorus went ahead 2-1.

Cambridge FC (red shirts) go on the attack.

With the match close to the end, Cambridge tried to level matters, but Kathorus stood firm, not allowing any more goals against them.

The supporters at the full Duduza Stadium left the match dumbfounded that their favourite team did not win.

Cambridge’s next match is against fourth-placed 11 Experience FC at Kwa-Thema Stadium.

“It is uphill for Cambridge as they find themselves in a situation where two seasons ago, we had to go for a win in Kwa-Thema against 11 Experience FC. It looks like history repeating itself,” Cambridge FC said head coach Minhle Cooper.

“We have ourselves to blame and can only take ourselves out of this situation by winning the last game. This was a poor performance by the boys, and we hope it’s an eye-opener,” concluded Cooper.

“We must apologise to our fans for the disappointing result and hope to make them proud in our last match in Kwa-Thema,” said Cambridge chairperson Ignatius Maphike.
