Uniquely Me pageant makes a return in September
The annual event raises funds to aid and support disabled children, while also giving them a platform to feel beautiful.
Uniquely Me is an annual pageant for disabled children and will reappear on September 7 at the Springs Civic Centre in a mystical under-the-sea adventure from 10:00.
The pageant has a dual purpose: to raise funds to provide disabled children with essential and life-saving equipment such as wheelchairs and to give disabled children an event where they can shine and feel beautiful.
The pageant was started by Debbie Oberholster, who spent years searching for meaningful activities for her disabled son, Diaan Oberholster, to take part in when she discovered pageants for disabled children overseas.
Inspiration struck, and Uniquely Me was born. The first pageant was in 2018, with only 11 children and 100 guests.
“Over the next five years, this cherished event blossomed, paving its path as a private endeavour,” Debbie explained.
The event is set to host 40 participants and 450 guests, and they hope to give back more than ever. Uniquely Me donates custom wheelchairs to disabled children and contributes to children’s healthcare.
They also provide intervention services for infants and toddlers, preschool and school-age programs, individual and group therapy, family support, advocacy and outreach, and assistance with placement and training post-school.
Guests who want to support this initiative and event can book a table for 10 people at R1 600 or a single ticket at R160, which both include lunch, or they can book a gallery ticket at R70 which doesn’t include lunch.
There will still be food and drinks for sale at the event, so those with gallery tickets won’t go hungry, and there will be a live auction to raise further funds. For more information, contact Debbie on 083 437 0601.
