Unity in community feeds many
The Wayside Feeding Scheme is preparing for its annual holiday breakfast and lunch event on December 20.
The strength of a community is in its unity.
This statement is evident in the community of Alra Park as they come together, giving up their time to serve others.
The Wayside Feeding Scheme and Development organisation is a non-profit community organisation based in Alra Park.
They focus on upliftment and empowerment as well as healthy nutrition through three soup kitchen outlets in the Alra Park community.
Over the past four years, ladies in the community have volunteered their time to assist the organisation in fulfilling its mandate. During Women’s Month in August, the organisation hosted an event in appreciation of all these remarkable ladies.
“I have noticed that young women are becoming more and more concerned about their contributions to positively impact society or making a difference in other people’s lives,” said spokesperson, Nadeemah Javaid.
She added that the volunteers are the driving force behind their agricultural projects to sustain the organisation and to contribute to poverty elevation.
Volunteers also host a range of other activities from GBV workshops to clean-up campaigns and business skills support groups.
“We are extremely grateful for each volunteer who contributed to the success of the organisation. We will continue our journey in making a difference in the community. We also want to thank our primary benefactor, VPS Haulers for supporting our soup kitchens since 2020,” added Javaid.
The Wayside Feeding Scheme is preparing for its annual holiday breakfast and lunch event on December 20th where approximately 170 elderly or disabled and 300 children aged between three and 16 will be served and are encouraging the community of Nigel to support them with donations in aid of food supplies.
