Pilot escapes an aeroplane crashes after Heidelberg Great Train Race

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was notified of the accident.

Disaster struck at the Heidelberg Great Train Race on Saturday when an aeroplane that was part of the spectacle crashed.

The plane was on its way back from the train race from Heidelberg at about 10:30 towards Vereeniging when the pilot had to make an emergency landing close to the R42, about 17km from Heidelberg.

The pilot, Jeff Earle, escaped the wreck with a few scratches and bruises.

“I felt something was not right and was busy losing power when I was forced to do an emergency landing,” said Earle.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was notified of the accident, and they gave the all-clear for the aircraft to be removed from the accident scene.

Pilot Jeff Earle escaped with only scratches and bruises.
