Ratanda SAPS reaches out to local schools

A school readiness and Adopt a Cop initiative was launched.

On the first day of the new school term on January 15, Ratanda SAPS, in collaboration with various stakeholders, hosted a school outreach programme.

The stakeholders included Ratanda SAPS, Community Safety, Lesedi traffic members, Gauteng Traffic Police and wardens, Siyangena patrollers, Ratanda Youth Desk, and the Heidelberg District Taxi Association (HDTA).

The topics were school readiness and Adopt a Cop. The SAPS members and role players first held an operation on the R549 Vaaldam Road and the R23.

A stop-and-search and scholar transport monitoring was conducted.

Thereafter, the members visited various schools, including Kudung Middle School, Ratanda Secondary School and Fountain Five Primary School.

The schools were also monitored to ensure safety and no disruptions were forthcoming.

Ratanda was a hive of activity on the first day of school.

The SAPS members also worked through the Adopt a Cop outreach and carried out spot checks for illegal substances at the schools.

“The safety of the children in the schools is one of our main objectives and we want to ensure that the kids feel safe while in the school grounds. We are adopting the schools in the area so to speak and will be conducting spot visits from time to time” said Sergeant Moss Maluleke, Ratanda SAPS corporate communications officer.

Ratanda SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Moleleki Isaac Ramothsabi said, ”We want to promote Ratanda SAPS in the area and by building relationships that will be of benefit to the community, residents and police in the area. As the police, we will do our best to ensure that the criminals do not take over Ratanda and hold the community hostage.
