The Cambridge Football Club continued its impressive run in the Hollywood Bets League, claiming a 2-0 victory over Benoni Northerns in a decisive clash on April 12.
The match at Benoni Northerns’ home ground saw Cambridge FC rise to the occasion as the league heads into its most competitive stage.
This was the first round of matches since the rainy weather put a stop to the league.
The break in games did not dampen Cambridge’s spirits because they came out fighting from the get-go. They showed they were in a zone by launching attacks and retaining ball possession.
The Bridges dominated for long periods, but their initial problem was converting attacks into goals. Halfway through the first half, Njabulo Ntjebe Mahlangu found the back of Benoni Northerns’ net to go up 1-0.
Despite Cambridge creating more scoring opportunities, the players could not convert them into goals.

In the second half, Cambridge continued where they had left off and played high-intensity football. Benoni attacked a bit more and created some scoring opportunities, but goalkeeper Sipho Karolo was on hand to stop them and hold on to another clean sheet.
Cambridge scored its second goal when substitute Katleho Dembele Molobela got onto the scorecard.
“Cambridge is becoming stronger with each match played in the league. We are executing our game plan well and playing according to the given instructions.
“The only team that can beat Cambridge is Cambridge. I am happy with the effort the boys are putting in, and the results speak for themselves,” said head coach John Mosia.
“We have found our rhythm and the true identity of the Cambridge culture. We hope to carry that high intensity and good performance until the last game of the season. We thank our sponsors who make it possible for us to play in the league. However, we still call on companies to support the project,” said Ignatius Maphike, the club chairperson.
